Let's Remember...

Have I told you how much I love these weirdos?

Tomorrow is 9/11. It's a day where many people lost the "wholeness" of their families. Moms lost husbands and fathers. Dads lost their wives and mothers. It is a day of remembrance.

But the way to beat the people who caused this horrible loss is to turn it into a day of hope.

This week has been the Compassion trip to Guatemala. There are several bloggers and Shaun Groves currently in Guatemala blogging about the people, their surroundings and the impact that the Compassion program has on their children and life. I've been reading many of the posts that have been put up over the last few days and they are life changing.

I gripe daily about my house. DAILY. It's small (to me) and old (or so I thought). But now I know that I have a roof, walls, paint, baseboards, AC and heat.. a firm foundation. I am beyond blessed. I am beyond in a house that I do not deserve. I am ashamed at my griping and whining when there are women in the world raising their children in buildings that I would not allow my children to touch for fear of tetanus. Those women are stronger than I am on my best day. They clean dirt floors but they clean them because their children deserve it. They worry for their children every time they leave the house because of gangs. I worry about that guy who drives the black truck down our street too fast. I have nothing on them.

Compared to them, I am not a wonderful mother.. I am spoiled and whiny. Compared to them... raising my children is a snap.. when I yell and gripe at their behavior. Compared to them I have a mansion that I choose to treat as a shack.

Yeah, my thinking has been changed this week.

So tomorrow on a day of loss, let's remember those who are still fighting for hope. Those, like those mothers, who are trying their hardest in what some would deem a hopeless situation... They are fighting for their children... for the future of this world.

Let's love them, pray for them and support their children.

All it takes is $38 dollars a month to support a child and give hope.

It is a day where we can see our own failings, but I believe it gives us hope for the future.
